Janet Jones, Director of Music
Janet is a Graduate of the University of Illinois holding a BS in Music Education majoring in piano/piano pedagogy with a minor in voice. Janet also holds a Master of Music in performance in piano/piano pedagogy/voice. She has studied with Alodia Treciokes (Metropolitan Opera), Dr. Claire Richards (Royal Academy of Music/London), Dr James Lyke, Dr. William Heiles, Tony Caramia (Jazz, Eastman School of Music), Dr Reid Alexander and Dr. Dean Shank; composition with Dr. Scott Wyatt and pre-doctoral work on classical and jazz piano with Skip Hotchkiss in Sioux Falls, South Dakota and Dr. Earl Lee. Janet also worked for Yamaha Music Corporation in Annaheim, California. Janet has attended master classes with Ruth Slenczynska, Malcom Bilson, Steven De Grotte (winner of the Van Cliburn Competition), Charles Rosen, Billy Taylor, Ian Hobson, Richard Chronister and Misha Dickter.
Janet is the Director of Music at Plainfield Congregational Church UCC, where she has been a staff member since 2006. Janet conducts the Chancel Choir, Chancel Band, PCCUCC Music Ministry and VBS Music.
Janet was published in the July 2009 issue of School Band and Orchestra magazine for her work with music technology including GarageBand Podcasting, Promethean Board Technology, IPads in the Music Classroom. In May 2016, Janet was chosen as a Quarterfinalist for the 2017 Music Educator Grammy In Los Angeles, California and is also a *Legacy Quarterfinalist for the 2018 Music Educator Grammy in Los Angeles, California. Janet has accompanied worship services in various churches since the age of 13 and joined the Plainfield Church UCC Music Ministry in 2006. Recently, Janet was the featured Guest Artist with the Illinois Southwest Community Band as an Organist and Pianist.
